I'm In Love
And I will go on record as saying today was one of the most moving moments of my life.
And I think Ben's too. She put that little machine on my belly and started looking for the heartbeat, and I was fine. Not a tear in sight. But as soon as the words "there's your baby!" came out of her mouth... I lost it . Well, more accurately, we lost it. It was so sweet. I thought my chest was going to explode.
I was just not expecting the sudden rush and intensity of relief, joy, and LOVE for that super-speedy little heartbeat! Incredible, incredible, incredible.
So all is well in the Baby White world. 2 more months and we can start picking out tiny dresses or cargo shorts!
In other news, it may or may not be official, but in my world it is now Fall. It does not get any better than Fall, people.
Fall means I get to break out the pumpkin, cinnamon, and clove candles; I get to wear boots; I get apple cider, mums, and a pumpkin carving kit; I get pumpkin cinnamon icecream (don't knock it til you try it, its heaven); I get to decorate the house and make it feel warm and cozy; I get a new wreath for the front door; I get to stockpile candy to give out in a month; I get to prepare my T-day arsenal of recipes that I want to cook- the yearly "must have"'s, and the "must try"'s; and I'll admit that I even get excited about the football. Football on tv just brings home that ultimate Fall feeling. There are so many more good things that come ... the colors, the leaves, the weather, the clothes, .... hope you are loving it too! I'm off to go find some mums and pumpkins. And maybe a little icecream.

A Lime and a Heartbeat
First the little pumpkin that is starting to make me have a buddha belly was compared to the size of a cocktail shrimp. Yesterday my book said it was now the size of a lime. Talk about a growth spurt!
My stomach and the rubberband holding up my dress pants say it looks like it should be the size of a small watermelon. At least that's how I feel anyway.
Here's another thing people can never fully explain to you before you get pregnant... you will go through this fun phase when your regular clothes aren't exactly comfy, but maternity clothes are still a few months away. Its a joyride finding a shirt that isn't a tent, looks nice, but is long enough that it covers the fact that you're pants aren't always buttoned.
My closet and I had a real heart-to-heart at 7am this morning.
I then had to actually climb up into the attic, get down a box of my fall clothes, (even though it is still over 80 degrees outside) and pull out a few shirts that are typically the outer layer of a two or three layer ensemble to wear. (But you'd never know that my pants aren't buttoned today!)
Tomorrow morning is finally the day Ben and I get to go hopefully hear our baby's heartbeat!
I am equally nervous and calm. Nervous that I will forget some or all of the questions I want to ask our doctor, and calmed that I will finally get more than a pink line, constant hunger, and unbottoned pants as evidence that we are expecting.
Is it kind of weird that it is still a little surreal to me that I'm pregnant? I mean, I can't really feel it, can't see it, can't hear it... so I think actually hearing the heartbeat will be a big moment. A REAL moment.
So we're praying that all goes well, and are really really excited. And I welcome your prayers for a strong heartbeat too :)
Til next time, I'm off to go search for non-maternity maternity clothing. Peace.

Resurrection Biscuits
I could blame the fact that I ate 4 of them on my current impregnated state, or I could simply blame it on how amazing these things are... either way, they are ridiculously good. And EASY. You gotta try 'em!
Resurrection Biscuits
1 can butter flavored biscuits ( we used the Publix Butter-Me-Not can of biscuits)
1 bag jumbo marshmallows
Preheat oven to required temperature on biscuit directions. Seperate biscuits and using your fingers, flatten out each disc of dough until it is about 3-4 inches wide (big enough to enclose the marshmallow). Place one marshmallow in the middle of each biscuit, then fold up the sides and seal in the marshmallow. Place on a cookie sheet and bake til golden. Eat warm.
I was told they are called Resurrection Biscuits because the white marshmallow represents Christ, the biscuit is the tomb; Christ is placed in the tomb, and then when you open up the biscuit after it has baked, Christ (or the marshmallow) has risen. I'll be using this as a visual Bible story aid in a few years I think!

A cocktail shrimp?
The really fun thing was that apparently our child has little ear buds and can hear me now. How cool is that!??!
Wait.
Does that mean she hears those little pregnancy burps and hungry tummy rumblings throughout the day too?
Man, I hope it doesn't learn bad manners this early. That would be so embarrassing.
Happy Monday peeps.
**Edited 8pm
I just read another article that compares the munchkin to a kumquat. That's a little better.

work of hart
But no amount of partiality could take away from how cute that thing is. I mean, have you ever seen a diaper cake that awesome?
Admit it, you haven't. And that's just the beginning. It is stuffed with all sorts of goodies, and the artist even throws in a handmade baby blanket if you want one. Seriously.
Well, that little darling is the work of my multi-talented and ridiculously crafty sister. Oh yes, the one who also makes jewelry, blankets, and wall art. I have no idea where I was when that lesson was being taught in our house.
So, Heather is opening up her diaper cake making for business! If you or someone you know wants the coolest diaper cake on the block, you can contact her at hefnerhl@gmail.com to order one!
I did selfishly tell her that this new talent was found right on time- I can't wait to see mine! :)

I'm It
My first attempt at this proved futile because so many of my quirks (coffee, chocolate, ranch dressing, hospital documentaries) have flown the coo-coo's nest since the pregnancy. I had to dig deeper.
Please do not judge me for my neurosis.
1. I’m picky about hitting bumps in my car. Speed bumps are my favorite because it is an all-wheel contact bump. Pot holes are my least. I hate it when my right tire bumps on a spot in the road, and my left doesn’t. Like it bothers my true sense of tire equality and balance. Help me. There’d better be a pothole or something I can bump my opposite tire on soon or I get irritated. This has happened for as long as I can remember, even riding with my mom in the car. My poor mother.
2. I cannot leave the house or go to bed if the living room is not in order. Couch pillows fluffed with zippers facing down, ottoman righted, t.v. armoire closed, controllers on the tray, doggie toys all put up in there bucket, and blankets hidden. If Ben stays up later than I do, I do all of this as soon as I get up the next morning. Thank goodness I have a small living room.
3. I consistently crave things I cannot have. I think this is some sort of self-inflicted torture. The huevos rancheros and homemade tortillas at that place in Tx my gramps always goes. The fried noodles at the mom and pop place where we lived in Japan. My mom's lasagna (coincidentally also now in Japan), the biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs on top (I promise, it's heaven) that my brother in law would make at Huddle House... the list is long.
4. If at home, I must eat my icecream out of a coffee mug.
5. I hate Tupperware. With an unbridled passion.
6. I spray down the kitchen counters and island every day. Even if I didn’t cook. You would think this would keep them clean. Somehow it doesn’t.
I tag Heather, Jan, and Lindsley!

The Reveal (and other stuff)
I wanted to be pregnant. I was waiting to be pregnant. (And Ben would say that is the understatement of the year. :)
But I had gotten a negative before and had pretty much sworn off all tests with a pink line for the time being. They were not my friend. I needed to save my sanity.
So when I was on my way home from work one afternoon in August, and my car decided to turn into CVS, I was a little dazed. I'm not losing it, I thought to myself. It was literally like "Wait? Why did I just pull in here?". So I go in, browse around, and whaddyaknow, EPT is on sale. Well, there's my sign. I'm always a sucker for a sale.
So I get up the next morning, and see two pink lines.
UM.
Wait.
Seriously??
I really think I'm seeing things.
This cannot be true. This would be too amazing to be true.
So get home that afternoon and try again.
Two pink lines.
OH. MY.
Ben gets home half an hour later, walks in the door and starts telling me about his day. I'm so racked with nerves, all I hear is "Wohwahwohwah" like Charlie Brown's school teacher or something. I can't even follow what he is saying.
I think he noticed this, and stopped and looked at me.
"Whats up?" he says
"Uhh. .."
"Everything ok?"
"Yeah! Ummm.. "
(at this point I realize all those daydreams I had about romantic fun ways I would tell my husband we were having a baby went out the window. I had to get it out. Right. Now.)
"Well," I finally stutter, "I guess its a good time for you to be going to Vegas" (He was leaving the next day)
"Why is that?" As he slowly gets this semi-I-may-know-whats-going-on face.
And then he peers over my shoulder and sees the wee stick.
" Cuz you got really good odds."
"SERIOUSLY?!?! YOU'RE PREGNANT?"
"Yeah, thats the second one. And I'm taking two more to be sure."
(FYI They were all positive)
Maybe I'm a little compulsive. But four tests is pretty normal, right??
So, that's how it happened. It was a sweet time.
My days are now spent going to bed at 8pm and waking between 1:30 and 4am. Don't ask me why. It just won't stop. I'm told that it will go away soon, which would be nice, since my days of a full night's sleep are numbered for a while.
They are spent figuring out what will smell good, taste good, and satisfy my craving. For some reason its more difficult than it seems. Orange juice, rice, and Panera Bread are really popular right now. And grilled cheeses.
Fabulous news is that I have had zero morning sickness or nausea. My mother is an angel for giving me those genetics. I am eternally grateful! As long as I eat often enough, I'm good to go.
Its still surreal to me that I'm actually experiencing this stuff, talking about being pregnant.
I must admit that I do covet your prayers. For the baby, its health and growth. I whisper this prayer daily, constantly. That I am doing everything I can, and lifting everything up to my God.
I told a friend the other day that the first realization as an expectant mother I had is that this is totally out of my range of control. I can eat right, exercise right, take the right vitamins, read the right books, but when it comes down to it, there is only one Person that can see what is going on with our baby. I cannot control if the baby's developing healthy lungs or a heart, or all the other billions of miniscule things that are going on right now. I can just pray for them. We can't see it, but He can. And that brings me more comfort than any bowl of Panera's french onion soup ever could.

Transformed
No sir we don't mean maybe! Ladies and gents, we're havin' a baby!
(I really thought about posting a belly shot, but to be perfectly honest, I can't tell if I'm actually already showing, or if its the grilled cheese sandwiches and Maggie Moo's, but hey... they said I needed calcium. But I'll just wait to share a picture until I'm a little more sure :)
More on this 'developing' story later! I wanted to write more about how I broke the news to Ben and all that good stuff, but its 8pm, which after fighting it for about 2 days, I have come to the quick realization is a perfectly normal bedtime for me at the moment.
=) Love, hugs, and babies!!

Check back for blog post here- ETA 12 hours and counting down.
(Ok, I like suspense, so I thought I'd share a little. :)
See you on the transformed side!!

The Blame Game
Why? Well, I'm guessing because of this (Hi, Ike)
And this: (construction at my office... dust'o'rama)
So tied in along with this: (Allergy Capitol of the US)
I'm beginning to look like Bozo the clown without the cheery disposition.
Oh where oh where have my normal breathing capabilities gone?
Here's hoping you have a fun, allergy-free, Friday :)

Weekend Highlights
Titans won their season opener! Good job, guys. Close, but good.
The bad:
I accomplished nothing this weekend. No, I'm not exaggerating. Unless getting a few groceries and watching hours of Food Network and movies on Hallmark and Lifetime are an accomplishment. Yeah, I didn't think so either.
The ugly:
The VMA's. I could rant on this for a while. Yeah, so Britney looked good, and Rihanna killed the opening act (is it just me or did that routine totally look like some awesomeness out of So You Think You Can Dance?!?) but that's about it. I didn't stay up for all of it, mostly because I was bored and tired of looking at the cheesiness of it all. What was with the stage and setup?? Note to MTV- I don't know what you saw in real life, but that place on tv looked small and cheap. And oh, Russell Brand. How disappointed I was. I thought you would be much funnier, Russell. I found the promo video's did you way too much justice.
So if you watched the VMA's and I just didn't give it enough time to redeem itself, let me know. I'll find it on YouTube.
Happy Monday peeps.

Just Two Cents
But I do believe in sharing valuable information. And I do think everyone has the right to their own opinion, as long as that opinion is executed when it comes to presidential elections.
Three little words.
Your Vote Counts.
I am very passionate about that one thing. Whatever you do, DO vote.
So it may be me getting older (ugh) or wiser (not likely), I'm not sure. But I have been more proactive in educating myself on the choices we will have on the upcoming ballot. So when I found the information below, I really thought I should share it.
Yes, it is only one facet of the many changes either candidate will bring to office, I understand that, but it's also very relevant.
(And the fact that the income tax increase shown below scares the bejeejees out of me.)
But also, as a friend and fellow blogger so wonderfully put it, "Ultimately there is great peace in knowing that God is in control and the decision has already been made regarding who will lead us. " Amen.

A Recap
"What? Seriously. Get up babe, so you won't be late."

Saturday we were really lazy, and hung out on the back porch for a couple of hours and had breakfast, went to do some shopping, and spent about an hour at Best Buy (yes, this is a weekly thing). Then for lunch we hit up this place a friend has been telling us about for a while. Guys, it was the best Japanese restaurant I have been to since we moved. It was ridiculous. Its called Sumo on Lascassas in the 'boro. Ben even said it was the best meal he had in town. Yeah, that good. Then that evening
we hung out on the couch with a big bowl of nachos while we watched the Alabama/Clemson game. (Clemson who??)
Sunday after church we decided to do a little picnic. And I absolutely love picnics, so I was on cloud nine. So I packed up the basket and we headed out to Arrington Vineyard. It was absolutely gorgeous. Ben took a little snooze while I took a few pictures.

Sunday evening, we also returned to Best Buy. If any guys actually read this blog, get ready. Turned out BB was having a Teacher Appreciation thing. Which means employee pricing for Ben. Which means opportunity knocking. Which means he finally got to walk out with his dream tv. Yes, ladies and gentleman, Sunday night was spent hooking up a 50" Plasma. We are ready for football season and FoodTV in high def. Can we say awesome?Monday afternoon we had some friends over for some hamburgers and hot dogs and the UT/UCLA game. We had an awesome time, played a little Scattegories, and the guys capped off the evening on the back porch. (And I have no idea why everyone is on the floor. Really.)

And on a final note, here is where I found Stormy yesterday after having 4 days of excitement, us at home, and no opportunities to take her typical 7-hour nap. She was out for the count:
Happy Plasma's and Picnicing!
