Halfway There! Ooh oh, Livin' on a Prayer!

And just like that, it's September.

Each of my children grew six inches, and I decided that if my babies thought they could grow up on me, then I could make them go on a three mile hike. Take THAT, growth spurts!

But not really. What I thought we would do is go on a nice little walk. We found a nature trail, which was exciting! I had the wagon with us, and a stroller, but why not let them run around and explore? Besides, they think strollers are so last year.

We brought animals. We brought snacks. We saw butterflies and puppies and centipedes.

I let the children run and skip, get all that energy out kiddos! Use it all!
(Hindsight : I am an idiot.)

We found a dry river bed to explore. It was pretty awesome.
It also made us very thirsty and some of us could not understand why we couldn't drink the green water teeming with slimy wildlife. I was a horrible, mean mother.

I announced it was about time to head back.

And that's when I realized that this had just turned into a three hundred mile hike.
With two tiny-legged kids.
By myself.

I'll be honest and say I knew this wasn't going to end well for me.

About two steps into our turn around, both begged for me to carry them. I told them that this was only the halfway point. That we still needed to walk back the way we came.

"You didn't tell us we were gonna hafta do THAT!!"

Well. My bad.

This is not a smile. This is a fake grimace. On my part anyway. Their smiles were authentic because they no longer had to use their legs.

And if you ever want a cardio workout that you will remember for days, just go on a hike with a couple of toddlers and not pay attention to how far you have gone.

Remember the turn-around.

My children knew how loved they were because I kept reminding them. And my thighs have never hated me more.

Summer Snapshots!

Summer, you were so good to us. So good, in fact, that I'm going to try to condense you into one lengthy little post. Full of snapshots and sweet memories, because even though you tried to go by fast, I'm holding on to them as long as possible.
And these days with my memory 'as long as possible' typically means through lunch.

Let's begin.

The Beach Trip.

Dinner With Friends.
And Lasertag.

Do you have friends in your life that you really, actually do life with? That's these faces for me.
We laugh. We encourage. We talk deep. We get real. We fear not.

And we make fun of each other when we see how sweaty and out of breath we are after half a game of lasertag.

Weekend Trip to New Albany.

There's something about taking the girls to Aunt Heather and Uncle Bo's that just makes the heart happy. The South. Family. Fishing. Sunshine. Yes please.

Baba's VISIT!!!

Icing on the cake? Four generation lunch.
The women in this picture make up so much of who I am. Blessed.

Exploring the Great Outdoors.

The girls and I have really enjoyed getting out for girl walks. While Ben is away we go play :)

She Turned Two.

My cherub-faced blonde-headed baby, I blink and she is a sharp as a tack, sweet spirited and energetic toddler. She's hilarious and smoochable and we adore her.

Outdoors. Ball caps. Popsicles. Repeat.

Good Eats.

May there always be good eats. While Baba was here we drove down to Miller's Grocery. In Middle Tennessee? Go there. It's a favorite.

Two Toddlers on Bikes.

The inside of my house may be a mess. But the outside is so much more fun sometimes!

Understanding Your Food Source.

Or as Kaelyn called it, "Really fun. But very, very stinky."
A Saturday trip to Batey Farms for the BEST sausage and bacon around.
Bonus? They have big pigs and baby bigs, and Wilbur.
Yes. Wilbur from Charlotte's Web, the movie. (But he's not so little any more).

Friends. Fire. S'mores. Summer.

Splash Pads!

And that's how we did summer.

With love :)
