The other day I went to Target and loaded up on sunscreen, floatie toys, and a pop-up pool.
As a reminder, I am a fan of all things gradual right now. We gradually started daycare, I gradually went back to work, she gradually started taking good naps (praise the Lord)... so in staying with the theme, I opted for a pop-up pool. We unfortunatley saw the effects of not using the Gradual Method when we were at a friends beautiful inground pool the other day, and I stuck K's feet in the water, to which she immediately went into hysterics. Alrighty, then. So much for the big pool. Let's scale it back a little.
Why gradual is good right now-
See Relaxed Baby, Exhibit A: (not throwing hands up in the air and screaming bloody murder)
"Mom, I cannot believe you forgot to bring snacks to the pool. All I'm stuck with is this!"
"Hi. You're totally blocking my sun."
And shortly after this shot, she was loving it so much she dozed off. I then had to wriggle a sleeping baby out of a wet bathing suit and get her in a dry diaper. (There are some things all those books just don't teach you.) But apparently all the excitement and relaxation of the pool wore her out, because she didn't move a muscle and snoozed for 2 hours.
Mommy has found her new nap tactic!!
