So Ben and I are changing up our eating habits a little bit.
Not that anyone is really interested in our eating habits.
But seeing as how food is a pretty big deal to me, and I've written about deliciously buttery recipes in the past, choosing to eat the things we are now eating is a pretty big stinkin' deal our our world. And I blog about our world.
My world.
My food-loving, recipe-collecting, chocolate-obsessed, pig-out-on-pasta world.
In case you didn't know, I love to eat. I love to cook. I enjoy it. It brings a level of happiness like nothing else can.
And my waistline has responded accordingly.
Happy day.
So, here is our current plan of attack.
We have started the ABS system.
Yeah, the one by that guy in Men's Health, with the 8 power foods or whatever. (Yes, the basic goal is to be able to see those 6 muscles again, but I'll settle for a little less inflation).
We did this about a year ago for 6 weeks (at the time thinking it would be a 'lifestyle change'. HA.... ) and we really did see and feel a difference, but didn't feel like we were dieting or starving ourselves. So we decided what the heck, lets go for round two.
So I made out the weekly meal plan. The grocery list. Bought all the good whole wheat, organic, low sodium stuff (meanwhile Publix sucked my bank account dry. What all these healthy eating plans leave out is the start up cost.) So now we have the basics. The staples we need to eat 6 times a day. We're doing good.
We're on day 2.
Of a 6 week plan.
And I have to admit, its taking a little more effort and a little more time, but its worth it.
The smoothie or english muffin with peanut butter in the morning makes me feel a lot better than the breakfast burrito or sausage pancake thing from McD's. The quesadillas we had for dinner were really good, and we definitely get enough to eat. Tonight we get rotisserie chicken and some other good stuff. And lots and lots of snacks. I love snacks.
So we basically just swapped out white flour for wheat, salt for well-seasoned, decreased the sugar, and gave up pesticides. I can live without pesticides.
I think the best part about all this is that for me, making out a weekly grocery list and what we are going to eat was a little effort on the forefront, but waaaay worth it now. No running to the store during lunch or on my way home, no trying to figure out what to make, or wondering if we have this or that, or our constant back up plan; fast food or pizza. (Oh, and later this week I'm making those too!). Hopefully that is one lifestyle change I will keep up, the weekly grocery run. Its nice.
Don't get me wrong, we haven't given up all the good stuff, and we are not health-nut junkies. We eat bite size Snickers, ice cream, peanut butter, cheese.... see why this thing works for me?
We just do it a little differently for the time being.
So that's whats going on in our kitchen, in case you were wondering.
Love and Lentils,
D
