In a nutshell, things in our little house are great; we are discovering our new normal =)
Mom headed back to Japan yesterday, and of course I cried off and on for two days straight (big shocker there. . . Ok, so I'm still crying. ), but constantly count my many many blessings that we were able to spend so much time together and that she was here to help me learn so many things about being a new mom. We had the best time hanging out, shopping, eating, laughing, and watching Kaelyn do all the funny stuff babies do (including 'christening' me on more than one occasion... Mom thought that was the best).
We get to hang out maybe once ever couple of years, so it is beautiful and bittersweet, and I am plotting how to get her back here again already.
As you can see, Baba's shoulder was one of K's favorite hang out's too...
So yesterday and today I am adjusting to a quieter house, how to time taking a shower while she naps since I can't just say "Here, Mom".
Kaelyn may not be the only one who got a little spoiled while Mom was here.
We also went to visit my sister and her boys over Memorial Day weekend, and had a blast, (pics to come, they are all on their camera), Kaelyn had her first trip to the zoo, and my sister also discovered something else while we were there- here's the background:
Basically, I can't put two and two together.
After watching K projectile vomit 2 or 3 times during our visit, Heather very gently asked this new, slightly frazzled, mom if I was sure she didn't have acid reflux.
Ummm. Huh.
So we do a lot of internet searching, I call the doctor after the holiday, and sure enough, my poor girl has got it.
All these days of washing me, her, the couch cushions, and everything in between when she would empty her stomach, all fixed with positioning her upright and elevating her head when she sleeps. It started about 2 or 3 weeks ago, and I thought it all had to do with whatever I was eating, so I was trying to eliminate anything that would be aggravating her. But no, she actually had acid burning her throat and a esophagus that needs to mature a little more.
The good thing is that we haven't had one bad spell since we figured all this out, which means (keeping my fingers crossed) she won't need to go on any sort of medication unless she starts showing symptoms that it is hurting her, which she hasn't yet, and she should grow out of it by toddlerhood.
The teeny challenging part is that per her pediatrician, the only time she can be laying down on her back is when she is getting a diaper changed. So naptime or hangout time are in her swing, carseat, or the Bjorn. Nice.
Oh, and since caffeine, chocolate, garlic, and spicy foods do aggravate the condition, guess what Momma is doing without... yeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaahhhhhhhh. FUN. My cooking arsenal is being adjusted drastically. I didn't realize until now that I use garlic in just about everything, on top of spice. But for my child to hold down and digest her food, I'll pay that very small price.
And, last but not least, we are headed to the mountains next week!
You may remember a post about a beach trip, but after a few glitches, we all decided to change direction and hang out in a beautiful cabin in Maggie Valley this summer. I have a feeling if Ben has any say-so, somehow Kae is going to end up with either a fly fishing rod or a golf club in her hand before it's all over with. =)
Oh, and just out of curiosity, is it completely unacceptable that my baby announcements are finally going out and my child is already 6 weeks old?!?! I don't understand where the time goes.
xoxo
