They aren't the best quality, since I still can't upload from my camera, but here a few shots from my phone of the result of all the blood, sweat, and tears from the last two weeks!
These are of our living room, but we re-finished the hardwoods in the hallway, nursery, and spare bedroom too. There's a little story about the unfinished hardwood in the dining room, but I'll get to that.
And about that blood, sweat, and tears. The blood part came in when I was scooting around on the floor with needle nose pliers and a butter knife getting up all the staples from the carpet before we could start sanding.
This is me being pregnant at its best, let me just tell you:
I turn to Ben while I am on the floor and say "You are not going to believe this. I have a BLISTER on my tongue."
Yeah. That got a chuckle. And a very odd look as to why I was trying to pull something out of the seat of my sweatpants.
So then I say, "No, seriously!"
"Okaaaaaaaay... " He says. "What do you want me to do?"
"Nothing. I think I got it."
"HUH?"
As I hold up my pinched fingers and say "SEE!! I told you I had a blister on my butt!!! Why are you LOOKING at me like that??"
"Babe. Um. Do you mean you had a SPLINTER on your butt?"
"Yes. That's what I said."
"This pregnancy thing is a riot. I love you."
Yeah. That's how well my brain is functioning these days.
The sweat came in when we realized that our 'long weekend' project was really a 2 week + project that would also make us have to move out of our home, call on some very good friends to help us take a massive pile of carpet to the dump, find somewhere to sleep, and move every belonging from our house to the garage or our bedroom. Oh, and miss two weeks of The Biggest Loser, Lost, House, Grey's Anatomy, and our nightly Wheel of Fortune competition.
We polyeurethaned (no, I have no idea how to spell it. I just bought the stuff.) the final coat on Sunday, and immediately evacuated the house before getting high on the fumes. We've been fortunate enough to have a great friend let us crash at her place until it is safe to return (you're a lifesaver Amber!). I think if we had stayed one more day cooped up in our bedroom, which currently holds half of the furniture that was in the house, and the other half is in the kitchen, we would have seriously gone a little batty. I was so tired of squeezing through spaces to get in and out that I thought I would just start climbing through a window. Wouldn't that be a sight.
The only room left to finish is the dining room, like I said. This is because apparently the previous owners used a sealant from Mars on that floor, and we need to dig deeper with the sander to get it all off. When we put the stain on in that room it just looked like we had tried to paint plastic. It was wild. But, there was no stopping us. We were ready to get our house back. So we finished everything else, and are moving everything back in tomorrow, hoepfully, and life as we know it should return to semi-normal soon.
I have had dreams about walking in to my newly renovated home and sliding around on my socks (I have taught my nephew how to do this at his house, sorry sis, but it's the best! That laugh is worth it!) how absolutely adorable the nursery is going to look with the antique white armoire and white crib with a soft throw rug against those dark hardwood floors. About tiny feet padding down the hallway. SIGH.
It's all worth it.
xoxo, dae
