I firmly believe that my children exist to mainly keep me on my toes.
Some days this means I am thisclose to needing to breathe into a paper bag.
But sometimes it can be a good thing.
Case in point, the good version:
This is Alayna. The night I took away her assy. (Ok, look, its a paci. But now we all know what happens when your child cannot yet enunciate the letter 'p'. The stares in the grocery store when she would drop it and scream for it were the best.)
I was bracing myself for Paci Bootcamp. A few sleepless nights of screaming, a possible knock on the door by the neighbors because she isn't nicknamed Siren for nothin'.
But no. I read her a book, rocked her, and when she asked for her assy, I told her that it was broken and they were all gone. No more assy.
**Here we go. And 5, 4, 3, 2....
"Ok, Mommy."
Saywhothewhat?!
Passed out and kid you not, even slept through the night. Hasn't looked back since.
April also brought things like:
Beautiful weather. Hallelujah and amen for sunshine. These kiddos busted down the doors to get outside. And yes, we rock baby mullets like no one's biz.
Alayna's typical response to the camera. She's hilarious and she knows it.
Kaelyn's typical response to the camera. "I'm ready for my close up, Mr. DeMille."
This was her last day of Threedom.
And here we are in the land of the Fours. First pedicure and all. She couldn't have been more excited if she tried.
We had a Mommy and Me day, and did a little shopping.
During which she told me that she was going "to just chill out for'a second, because there are SO many things I need to look at. This chair is perfect for a little stretch!"
She got a big girl haircut, and again, so proud.
We had what was officially the best birthday party so far. Discovery Center. Rented room. Mommy didn't have to clean or stress or cook or do anything other than soak in the moment of celebrating her turning four. And as much as I love to decorate and throw a party, that, my friends, was priceless.
Because she isn't going to remember whether the floors were clean or if I made five hundred tissue paper roses and a super glued googly eyes onto fifty drinks that took sixty hours of my time.
She's going to remember running around with her friends laughing at the top of their lungs, and that she asked Mommy to help her blow out the candle, and I did.
We had visitors for the big party. They were apparently sick, and needed a doctor and a nurse, STAT. Thank goodness we have in-house health professionals.
White, White & Assoc., at your service. We take all major forms of payment, including M&M, Hershey and Starburst.
The big gift came from Grandmama and Papaw. And this shot makes my heart melt into a little puddle. Because look at that sweet smile.
And then reminisce with me that four years ago I was holding that child in my arms for the first time and riding her first bike was a lifetime and a half away and somehow it crept up so fast that my heart is still trying to play catch up.
And then there's this.
Which pretty much sums up their personalities perfectly.
This is a favorite. We've reached the age that they can both pull up a chair and have fun with me in the kitchen, and I love it .
Except for the whole they don't save me any brownie batter part.
