what we've been up to

What with life and all, I haven't had a chance to take many decent pictures lately, but that just means I'm in all the action instead of on the sidelines snapping away, which is perfectly fine with me. Plus it's hard to get a picture when I'm trying to dodge flying spaghetti or blueberry-stained chubby little fingers (see below for evidence). This is where my phone definitely comes in handy- small, quick, and easy to wipe off :)

"Mooom, I just wanna touch it!"

Ignoring the stomach bug/strep throat/sinus infection (back to back, in that order) that has been keeping me company the last ten (TEN. MISERABLE.) days, we've been having a blast around here! Or maybe its all the drugs I've been taking.

Saturday night was the big annual awards event at work! I was feeling pretty close to my worst nightmare, so Ben surprised me and sent me off to go get a spa mani/pedi before I had to go in. Its amazing what a romantic hub and fresh coat of red nail polish can do for a girl. I put on a dress, did my hair, and we celebrated. (Ben, being the super dad that he is, stayed home with Kaelyn and I was told that they had a little party all of their own.)

Sunday night, even though I could barely talk, I was not about to pass up my other gift from Ben ( I know. He rocks.) He and Todd, a friend from work, sent Amanda (Todd's wife, who, side note, is the cutest pregnant thing you have ever seen and is having a baby girl and we can't wait!!) and I off to see Mamma Mia! Orchestra seats, at that!
We were kinda bummed there wasn't a big poster to get our picture by, but we had a BLAST. I was rolling, the cast was so good, and what can I say, I'm a sucker for the arts and I love being entertained.
I guess I'm pretty much just a sucker period, because when we sat down in our seats, there was this mom and (after talking to her during intermission) her precious little six year old daughter there. Mom said that her daughter loved musicals, and loved the movie version of Mamma Mia, so that night they got all dressed up and they surprised her and brought her to see the play. The little girl was having the time of her life, singing every song, and what do I do? I start crying watching her. I don't cry pretty either. To the mom and her daughter, I'm sorry if you thought you were sitting next to a crazy person. My mom took me to plays when I was that age, and all I could see was Kaelyn and I doing that in about five years.      Dry. It. Up. Woman.

We also took Kaelyn for a few strolls around town since the weather has been so beautiful. Other than sitting in grass ( seperate story, more later) this girl loves being outside!

I adore my child. She makes me laugh. Picture this: Kaelyn, in her stroller, bare feet propped up on the bar, twirling them around like there is no better way to enjoy life than letting the air in between your toes while you get pushed around in the sunshine. I don't know why, but she just had me cracking up.

While we were out we bought her first two pairs of 'walking' shoes.

And now you hear the sound of my heart breaking.

When I dropped her off at school today her ladies in her room were blowing bubbles, and she went nutso. Laughing and squealing. I just love the sheer joy of it all!  And no wonder she gets so excited going to school...they are way more fun than at home. I'm going to have to step it up. (I also found out that they are doing flashcards with them, which she apparently loves.) And here I am at home just letting her play with pots and pans and the dog food bowl that she refuses to leave alone.

Since she is painfully close to turning a year old, I find myself trying to soak in and remember all these little things that she is doing. It just all happens so fast, its impossible. Like the fact that overnight she has decided she loves story time; we read no less than three books, while she turns the pages (alternating between using her feet and hands. She does not limit herself.). We took her to the kids section of B&N last night and you would have thought she had just been let out of the house for the first time in her life. The scream and the look of awe on her face was hilarious when we sat her next to all of those books. She's a girl after my own heart.  Or that she only wants to play with the extra set of makeup brushes in the morning because she sits there and watches me use them. Or that she hates taking a bath in the 'big tub' so we still use her baby bath, because apparently she feels more secure in something she outgrew three months ago, but hey clean is clean. She is a wandering beast around the house and we have found that her favorite spot is under whatever she can fit herself (chairs, high chair, table, other cribs at school). She loves giving kisses equally ( if I get one, Daddy gets one), and she loves to dance with me to the radio in the mornings.

Life is good, and there's your White House update. Thank you for tuning in.
=)
xoxo
