Dear Kaelyn,

There are some moments in life that are so unexpected and pure, beautifuly random and fleeting, moments that I want to mark and treasure forever.

The other night we were sitting on the couch, just you and I after dinner, and you were doing your best to get comfy in what is left of my lap. It had been a good but long and hot afternoon, running around town, visiting Dad at school, braving public restrooms because of our newfound no-more-diapers victory.

Out of the blue you turned around, put your hands on my face, and said "Mommy. Mommy, you's my best friend."
And then gave me one of your sweet kisses, turned around and sat back down.

Just a simple statement. Completely uninhibited and honest. My heart almost came out of my chest.

The phrase "every day I love you more" sounds like a really overused song lyric, but that's pretty much how it is. You are constantly growing and changing into this little girl, this little person who is finding their way in life.

At almost two and a half, you are brave and independent. We say that you are cautiously brave because you want to do everything by yourself. You will jump right off the side of the pool and not doubt that someone will catch you. But you are the first to ask sure if everyone is buckled up, holding hands and watching for cars, or telling us to "beeeeee safe!!" when we are out doing something. Yesterday I was rolling to a stop at a red light when in a very concerned voice you said "MOM!! STOP! It's rwed wight!"

You are age appropriately finding your boundaries, figuring out action and consequence.  You have Dad's easy going sense of humor (you already laugh at Wipeout. Hysterical to me for some reason.) and love of the outdoors, and my love of all things chocolate and cuddling on the couch with a good movie and popcorn.

You are days away from being a big sister, and if you are half as attentive and loving towards Alayna as you have been to my tummy the last several months, you are going to rock it. You two love on eachother any time I'm still, and as bizarre as it may sound, I'm pretty sure she will know you and your voice instantly as much as she will mine. At this point I think she may get more hugs and kisses that I do. It's intriguing to me how much you may or may not comprehend about pregnancy and that there's a baby in there that will be coming out soon.

What is also intriguing to me is that somehow time has flown by and all of the sudden we are going to be a family of four.  Wowza. Like you say all the time, "I's sooo happy! It's so much fun!..... What we do next, Mom? What next?"

Indeed. So fun. What next? :)

All my love,
Mom

I love it :) Liza is saying some pretty neat things lately too! And, I love that she watches Wipeout. My kids have watched it a couple times with Shawn and they laugh too!
