Numero Dose- The Details

So pretty much I like to call it a very planned surprise, because that's exactly what it was.
Ben and I had briefly chatted about more babies, and the words "Maybe it's time for another" had barely left our lips.

Fast forward a few weeks later.

A Mom knows, and I knew that I knew. But, I just knew I was wrong. No way, I told myself. You're going crazy(ier).  The mind can play funny tricks on you, y'know?

The Monday before Christmas I take myself into the doctor's office, not because I think we're pregnant, but because I need a steroid shot for these sinuses or I'm gonna be Scrooge gone mad.
The doctor comes in, does her battery of questions, we run some lab work just to be safe I'm getting the right drug for the right problem.
Thirty minutes later, the doctor and the nurse walk back in together, with this bizarre look on both their faces, which is exactly the time I think, "Oh sweet Jesus. Please be with me. They came in together to tell me I have some disease. My lab work revealed some horrible case of ..."
"SO!", my doctor says.
Ummm. So?
"I hear that you guys are trying for another baby?"
"Well, I mean, yeah sorta but not really. I mean, we've talked about it but I know I'm not...."babblebabblebabble. I keep going.
And she starts nodding her head and smiling. And the nurse is bouncing up and down.
Wait. What?
"Well, you're blessed! And pregnant!"
And they give me a hug.
And the room goes very still, and I go very quiet.
"Are you serious? Serious, serious? FOR SURE?"
"You are very pregnant," she reassures me. "You ok?"
"I .. I ... wow. "

"I think she may need some water," I hear one of them say.
"No, no, I'm good. I'm..."
"Surprised?"
"Well, no. I mean, yes. I mean, you know...this is gonna be the best surprise Christmas present ever."

I don't remember the drive home.
I barely remember the next 48 hours.
I tried for two days to keep it from Ben, and plan some grand scheme to tell him and the rest of the family on Christmas Day.
I'm done with the whole 'I have to tell him in a grand scheme kind of way' idea. This is strike two. It ain't happenin'.

After two days of zero sleep and a million nerves on end, we were sitting at the table after dinner and putting Kaelyn to bed. Ben is working on grading papers.
"Wanna see one other thing I got to surprise everyone with while they're here for Christmas?"
"Sure.", he says, glancing up.
I pull out the Big Sister shirt from my bag and hold it up.
"See?"
He looks at it.
He looks at me.
He looks back at the shirt.
And the look on his face is so confused and so blank.
My chin starts trembling (dead giveaway for Daeon is about to cry like a baby).
"WAIT," he says, "you're PREGNANT??"
Nod nod, cry cry.
"Whaaaaat ?!??! When? Wait, what?  SO AWESOME!"
Hug hug, dual cry.

After, it was hilarious. I just laughed and laughed. The look on his face was so priceless, every single moment. From it not registering, to it registering, to to disbelief, shock, to glee.

Oh, and the family on Christmas.
It really was the most fun gift to share. I love nothing more than a really good surprise, given or received. Near and far, Ben's parents and mine, and the rest of the family, every single reaction was perfect. :)

And it was the best excuse to stay in my pj's for two days, and I took it.

baby love and planned surprises,
xo dae
